Cartergate, Newark.

When we moved here to Newark nearly nine years ago, Cartergate, one of the main shopping streets was far, far busier. Since then it has suffered from financial troubles including the pandemic.

Now it is quite sparse for shoppers, particularly on a dull, cold and windy late afternoon. Many shops have failed with nobody prepared to take them over. Now lots of nail salons, ladies hair dressers, charity shops, betting and gaming places.

It is much easier to park in one of the two retail parks and do your shopping there with free parking or to go to one of the four major supermarkets, again with free parking. Parking in town is hindered by parking chargers, time allowed and by the constant threat of getting in ticket from the ever present parking wardens!

Incidentally, the overhead wires are part of the Christmas decorations and lights which will shortly be installed.
