Kirkgate, Newark.

Looking up Kirkgate in Newark with Newark Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene at the far end. Taken from its junction with Castlegate.

‘Kirk’ is Old English/Norse for Church whilst the ‘Gate’ in the street names usually just meant ‘street ‘ or Road, coming from ‘Gata’. In Sweden, I lived on Ronnebygaten or Ronneby Street!
