Araucaria columnaris, the coral reef araucaria, Malta

Araucaria columnaris, the coral reef araucaria is a conifer that is also called the Cook pine (or Cook's pine) and the New Caledonia pine depending where in the world you are.

 

This one is in Independence Park on Tower Road, Sleima, Malta on the shore of St Julian’s Bay. They are not native to Europe and this is one of two in the park. The other is not healthy at all and appears to be struggling to survive.
