Commissioned for the Off the Shelf festival in 2005, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker’s words adorn the side of The Forge student accommodation on Boston Street, Sheffield. It reads:-
Within these walls the future may be being forged
Or maybe Jez is getting trashed on cider
But when you melt you become the shape of your surroundings:
Your horizons become wider.
Don’t they teach you no brains at that school?
The Off the Shelf Festival of Words takes place in Sheffield, England, during October each year. It is organised by the University of Sheffield with support from Arts Council England, Sheffield Hallam University and several commercial companies and offers a wide range of events for all ages.
It was first held in 1991 and has become an annual event attracting literature and media personalities to Sheffield. Off the Shelf is one of the United Kingdom's biggest and most significant festivals of writing and reading,combining a selection of authors, poets, journalists and broadcasters.
