Mushroom Glen! Birchwood Park, Lincoln.

Just last week, I came across a little glen in Birchwood Park, Lincoln that was full of these Fairy Inkcap mushrooms, botanical name Coprinellus Disseminatus.

They are rarely seen as an individual, often preferring the company of hundreds of their mates! Another name for them is Trooping Crumble Cap which comes from the appearance of a mass of them trooping across a forest floor and from the tendency of the cap to crumble away when picked.

They are supposed to be edible but rarely picked as some people suffer an adverse reaction to them when eaten.
