"Bats Inclines" Mine
This group of mines dates back to 1904. A series of inclines explored the ore body. No. 1 descended to a depth of 450', although flooded at the 300' crosscut. The climb was steep and loose and I lost my footing more than once. The No. 2 incline was much steeper and descended 500'. The first crosscut level was at the 450' station, from here the incline turned vertical for the last 50 feet. The smell of bat guano was so intense in this mine we decided to hurry and climb the 450 feet back to the surface. Research showed a 350' crosscut drift at the 500' level, but the unhealthy conditions of breathing in the guano forced us to turn back.
