Olympics and Zeppeliners. Møn, Denmark on film.

Opel Olympia 1936, two door cabriolet on Møn, May 2020.

Nikkormat EL, Nikkor-P Auto 105mm f/2.5 pre-AI and Kodak Ektar 100.

The Olympia was produced from 1935-1940 and named in anticipation of the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. The hood ornament is a stylized zeppelin which was the company's logo from 1935, when zeppelins signified innovation and progress. Quite befitting for this model, which was Germany's first mass-produced car with an all-steel monocoque body.

The present owner, the fourth since 1936, had restored the car to a pristine condition including details signifying that it started out as a driving instructor’s car on the island of Lolland, where it still resides.

The owner kindly showed me the original papers, pictures from the nuts and bolt restauration and footage showing a publicity stunt transport of an Opel Olympia with the Zeppelin Hindenburg to Brazil in 1936, which was no mean feat; more info at www.opelpost.com “MIT OPEL IM BAUCH ZUM ZUCKERHUT”.
