What a spot for a pub!

The tide is out at the unspoilt Royal Oak at Langstone, the sea that laps its walls replaced by whispering seaweed, exposed oyster beds spurting and clicking and flocks of wading birds...and me, attempting to walk across the marshes on an ancient route called The Wadeway that appears on the OS maps as a bridleway. It doesn't exist! (Dangerously so if you're an idiot like me that plows and wades on regardless.)

More of that rant coming up in later postings.

In the distance are the remains of a moated manor house, now known as Warblington Castle. Mostly destroyed in the Civil War, all that remains is part of a gate-tower, probably saved as an aid to navigation.
