Arts and Crafts Cotswolds, Broad Campden, Gloucestershire
The Cotswolds were unknown and unappreciated until 'discovered' by the likes of William Morris and the literary and artistic glitterati from London in the late 19th century, probably due to the railway network bringing them within reach. Villages like Stanton, Broadway and Chipping Campden, and its neighbour, the little village of Broad Campden were restored, and often previously humble cottages extended and picturesqued ’in the fashionable Arts and Crafts Style to make them suitable for weekend house parties.
Like the parts of the Thames Valley, the Cotswolds still preserve the feeling of it being forever an Edwardian summer, cucumber sandwiches on the lawn and honey for tea.
This is Sedgecombe House, 17th and 18th century, remodelled in the Arts and Crafts Style in 1926.
And the rest of the village is equally beautiful, and the little pub, the Baker's Arms, is used as the village pub in the TV series, Father Brown. (Brilliant home made fish pie with loads of fish and prawns!)
