Devon Summer. Blackpool Sands.

Quite a slog across the deep fine shingle with tired legs but worth it just to be on such a glorious beach.

I felt weirdly emotional and disorientated stepping out onto the beaches of Blackpool and nearby Slapton Sands. I didn't expect them to look like beaches in the Mediterranean and have that chilled out vibe and felt I'd been zapped abroad without knowing it. I'd love to have spent more time there but always feel I should be 'moving on' when I'm out walking and find it difficult to relax.

The final leg of my walk from Strete Gate and Slapton Sands; up through the woods on the left, then a little used lane to the village of Stoke Fleming and the bus back to Dartmouth as I'd largely done the walk from there to town already.

Gasping for a deserved pint and bemused to find the village pub closed weekday afternoons...in a tourist area! And an awfully long wait in the village bus-stop as I'd fallen into that gap where the local bus gets commandeered as a school-bus, a problem that used to catch me out around here until they sorted it out.
