The market place, Sarlat-la-Caneda, Dordogne, France.
Normally referred to simply as 'Sarlat', this medieval small town has survived in a remarkable state of preservation and has France's densest number of listed buildings.
As with so many French towns, the modern mess of the 20th and 21st centuries rather mars the approach, but this beautiful old town has retained a completely unspoilt centre with a labyrinthine network of ancient streets and alleyways, all built of the local glowing honey coloured stone.
