Tomb Raider is an upcoming 2018 American action-adventure film directed by Roar Uthaug and written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons. It is primarily based on the 2013 video game of the same name by Crystal Dynamics, and will be a reboot of the Tomb Raider film series. The film tells about the first expedition of Lara Croft, in which she goes to complete her father's research and uncover ancient secrets capable of clearing her name. The film stars Alicia Vikander as Croft, with Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Nick Frost and Kristin Scott Thomas appearing in supporting roles.
Principal photography took place from January to June 2017 at the Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in the UK and Cape Town, South Africa. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States in Real D 3D and IMAX 3D by Warner Bros. Pictures on March 16, 2018. The film will also have a IMAX 2D release.
