HMS Daring, £1.1 billion pounds of stealth warfare technology, lead ship of the Type 42 D-Class destroyers, launched on the Clyde in 2006 and formally commissioned on July 23, 2009. Based in Portsmouth.

Armed with anti-air missiles, two 30mm guns, two miniguns and six machine guns, as well as a Lynx HMA 8 Helicopter armed with anti-ship missiles and anti-submarine torpedoes. Also the first Royal Navy ship to feature 'gender neutral' living spaces. Unofficiallly supports Aston Villa FC.

Designed for stealth, it is considered the most powerful air-defence warships in the world, it has radar that can detect ballistic missiles and up to 1000 targets within 250 miles.

None of which prevented it colliding with a tug boat while entering Marchwood Military Port, Southampton, on September 7, 2010 - just over a month after it was officially declared "in service"
