Blue-wing Warbler

The Blue-wing Warbler is a resident in many parts of Southern Michigan as well as other states intermittently in the upper quarter of the United States. This bird was on my bucket list to photograph this year, and while I did find a single blue-wing on a migration point, I wasn't happy with the image I captured. Since my weekends were freed up due to the migration festivals being cancelled, I thought I would devote myself to seeking out this bird on its nesting grounds. This kind of target-hunting has been quite a joy.

 

The migration festivals are great as the potential for more species is greater, but target-hunting allowed me to focus on the bird and keep shooting until I was as happy with the shot as I imagined I could get.

 

I found these blue-wings in the very southwestern corner of Michigan in a wonderful place of old growth forests, grasslands, and marshes with no one around.
