Germanair

D-AMAY shortly before lining up for take-off on Riem’s runway 07 in summer 1976 with the village of Salmdorf visible in the distance. The aircraft wore the original Germanair colour scheme only for less than a year. From February 1977, D-AMAY would be flying with a logo-less red tail and initially without Bavaria Germanair titles before the full new livery was finally applied ca. April 1977.

Bavaria and Germanair merged in January 1977. Their aircraft received a hybrid colour scheme consisting of the basic Germanair livery with Bavaria Germanair titles and a stylized lion’s head logo (reflecting the Bavaria heritage) on the tail. In April 1979, Bavaria Germanair merged into Hapag-Lloyd.

The first Airbus A300 to visit Riem was Airbus Industrie’s prototype F-WUAB on 15 June 1973. Germanair’s D-AMAX, delivered on 23 May 1975, followed second on 2 June 1975 (first report of the aircraft at Riem).
