YU-AKD
Boeing 727-2L8/Adv
21040 / 1142
Aviogenex
During the late 1970s, this airframe was occasionally seen at Riem as a Yugoslav Government jet operating JAT flights. In the 1980s, YU-AKD returned to Riem with Aviogenex, and in November 1986 she was seen here as OY-SBJ leased to Sterling Airways.
When used by JAT (or JAT’s charter subsidiary Air Yugoslavia), YU-AKD had a standard single-class layout, but was distinguished by a particularly quiet cabin - apparently it had been equipped with special noise insulation for its use as a Government jet. (Thanks to Michael Bernhard for this information.)
Information from airhistory.net - thanks to Stephan Barth (adapted):
c/n 21040/1142 (first flight 18 June 1975). Delivered to Yugoslav Government as YU-AKD/14302 in 1975 (changed to 74302 in 1978). Sold to Aviogenex in February 1983. Leased out for a few months to Sterling as OY-SBJ between October 1986 and April 1987 (flying in basic Aviogenex colours). Returned to Yugoslavia in 1987, and was leased out to a lot of other airlines (Avianca, Egyptair, Chanchangi Airlines etc.). After nearly 30 years of service eventually broken up by its owner Aviogenex at Belgrade in 2006.
This was reportedly the last passenger Boeing 727 operating in Europe.
