N7040
Convair 240-0
8
American Velodur Metal Inc.
According to my notes, N7040 visited Riem only once but had also been noted at Fürstenfeldbruck Air Base close to Munich the year before, on 29 August 1972.
Information from bsl-mlh-planes.net:
This Convair 240 was delivered to American Airlines as N94204 "Flagship Detroit" in December 1948. It remained in scheduled service until 1959 and then became a company aircraft, first for the Norfolk & Western Railroad as N166N. After several owner changes, it was taken over by the American Velodur Metal Company in August 1972 as N7040 (later N10AV). After an emergency landing on a beach near Hyannis, Maine (USA) on April 9, 1977, the aircraft had to be written off.
