Nord 2501D Noratlas

D137

Aerotaxi Ecuatorianos (ATESA) (still in Luftwaffe dayglo and camouflage)

Three ex-Luftwaffe Noratlasses were delivered to ATESA via Riem: HC-AXF and HC-AXG on 3 November 1971 (via Prestwick-Reykjavik), HC-AXK on 29/30 April 1972 (also via Prestwick).

Interestingly, Paninternational’s Boeing 707-123B D-ALAL in the background, impounded at Riem since November 1971 and already registered N8420 at this point, left on the same day as the Noratlas (30 April). The Gulfstream II also visible in the background is Lear Siegler Inc.‘s N711LS.

This German-built Noratlas served with Luftwaffe (West German Air Force) as KA+148, AS+577 and 53+18. It was sold to Aerotaxi Ecuatorianos in 1972. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair and written off when it crashed into trees during go-around at Rio Amazonas, Pastazo, Ecuador on 24 July 1980 (TT2234 hrs).
