Built in 1943 as a C-47-DL and delivered to USAF in January 1943; to Skandinaviska Aero AB (SAA, Scandinavian Airways) as SE-ARX in May 1946; with SAS as Bertil Viking from September 1948 to November 1950; sold to Royal Swedish Air Force in October 1950 and served with it until November 1983, mainly used in the training of paratroopers at Fallskärmsjägarskolan (FJS) in Karlsborg. To Transport Aérien Zairois as 9Q-CYD on 2 January 1984. (Source: rzjets.net)

 

On 16 January 1984, Douglas C-47 9Q-CYD of Transport Aérien Zairois departed the runway at Kissidougou Airport following an engine failure on take-off. Dry grass was set on fire when it came into contact with the hot engine and the aircraft was subsequently destroyed by fire. All seventeen people on board escaped uninjured. The aircraft was operating a non-scheduled passenger flight in support of the Dakar Rally. (Source: wikiwand.com)
