Toimi Tragedy
Two Northshore Mining aces take the second 0500 load south to Silver Bay. There is quite the story behind this shot: I was in Toimi, MN. South of Babbit, 35 miles directly north of Two Harbors, about four hours from home. Absolutely no service for 25 miles. My vehicle that really probably shouldn’t have been going that far, did, and returned the favor to me by loosing power steering on a curve on a logging road 2 miles into the northern minnesota wilderness, and crashed into a snow bank, leaving me stuck at a 45 degree angle. I shoveled at it for about an hour before attempting to contact residences in the area, however no one was home. I made the executive decision to walk to a main road, as this road was used maybe once a day, If i’m lucky. I flagged down a motorist, an 80 year old who was more than happy to drive to Two Harbors, where I could call my parents who were less than pleased, to come get me. Any care I had for the railroads is now gone, every vehicle i’ve used in the last week (mine, parents, girlfriends, friends) has broken at some point. I do not trust any vehicles at this moment.
Lesson learned, don’t take a risky car very far, don’t go to areas without service, no trains=no problems.
