Manipulation
Day 24
Photober - Dizzy
You're going to run into manipulators. People who, whether they realize it or not, use your own kindness against you. The way they phrase things, the way they word things, it's all to get what they want—in the crudest sense.
Most manipulators don't realize they're doing it. And often, this takes place in relationships that are very close to you, people who love you and want to feel loved back. People who are hurting, or are afraid to hurt. Most often it comes from people who can't accept a part of themselves or something that's happened and always put themselves in a victim's position.
Unfortunately, to those of us kind enough to fall prey to manipulation tactics, it can be all too common. People know that we feel and we feel hard, and perhaps people subconsciously find us just so they can make us feel a certain way towards them.
I'm sick of it.
Even though most people don't realize they're being manipulated or are manipulating, these tactics slowly kill. They slowly drain. They destroy relationships and accomplish pretty much the opposite of what the manipulator wants.
If you're strung into many manipulation, you can start to feel trapped. Like people are tugging on you, every string, until you are caught in a web and become a puppet of those you love.
Realizing you are a manipulator is really difficult, but it can also be freeing. You can actually start to help the ones that you love and start to love yourself in return.
As one who is manipulated, breaking those strings can be rough, but it is necessary if you want to start living in a way that is healthy. We can't stop people from trying to manipulate us, but we can stop them from having such a profound effect by maybe just being a little bit harder, deploying boundaries, and enforcing them.
Still, easier said than done. Especially when it's someone you love or a who you are close to.
