100/100 "100 Strangers"

It's only taken six years to complete this project but finally its done at last!

There have been a few reasons for the slow progress including loss of interest in photography, parenthood, work-life balance to name a few. Another key factor was that I wanted to find an outstanding stranger to complete the series. I realised yesterday when I took this portrait that the idea of a perfect portrait was both arrogant and foolish on my behalf. This portrait is by no means perfect but I felt for a number of reasons that it was a good way to finish the project. Although most of my 100 Stranger images have been taken in the North East of England some of my favourite strangers including number 1 were taken of Scottish people or in Scotland where I now live. I decided to use this stranger to complete the series as in some ways it's almost similar to my first image of an equally striking yet different Scottish man.

I saw my stranger sitting outside of the subway in Glasgow and decided to ask if he would be part of my project. I showed him some of my previous images on my phone and he agreed. I then learnt that my striking looking stranger was called Hybrid XXI and was an actor, musician and model. For most of our conversation he spoke with an Irish accent as he was trying to keep in character for a role he was working on. I explained to him why it had taken me so long to finish my project and thanked him for taking part. I don't know if I will repeat this project in the future - If so I will try and be quicker at it than this first set of strangers!
