Moderne style

Bournemouth Pavilion was built in 1929, and is a great example of the architectural style known as 'Moderne'.

These handles, on the outside of the doors from the theatre to the West corridor, are the solid brass originals. What I have always really liked most of all is the clever recess built into the wall to enable these doors to open flat .... brilliant!

The shadows from the windows show the sunray design which is such an iconic motif of the period. Do notice the interesting surround to the door: I'm sure Tim will know the proper names for these bits and pieces.

I took these pics before a show we went to. I got a fierce itch on my arm during the first half, and, having forgotten to take my antihistamine cream with me, approached the St John's Ambulance bloke in the interval to see if he had some.

He told me that Health and Safety rules now prevent them from carrying any creams!

So I rolled the ice cream tub up and down on the itch before I ate the contents!
