Mesa Arch

This photo was taken during sunrise at Mesa arch in Canyonlands National Park. We woke up at 4:50 and left our campground around 5am. We drove an hour into the park and arrived at the parking lot with only three other vehicles already there. It was a race to hike to the arch before it was too crowded to secure a spot for sunrise. Upon arrival there was already a lineup of seven photographers all with cameras on tripods awaiting the sunrise. We found a spot on the other side of the arch and sat. During the hour we waited for the sun to come up more and more tourists came to the arch, to get their own sunrise photo. Just as the sun began to peak out from behind the La Sal mountains the sound of shutters rapidly closing began. As I was taking this photo, a few other tourists were standing with their cameras inches above my head also trying to get the same shot. It was a crowd of photographers all trying to get the same photo from the same spot at the same time. It was a scene. After sunrise we walked back to the parking lot and it was overflowing with the number of cars parked there for the morning sun on Mesa arch.
