Monument de l'independance.
Il Monumento all'Indipendenza fu costruito in omaggio all'indipendenza del Togo dalla Francia, ottenuta il 27 aprile 1960.
La sua struttura è composta da una sagoma umana scolpita nel vuoto (all'interno).
La donna, seduta su uno sgabello al centro del monumento, simboleggia soprattutto la fertilità.
Tiene tra le mani una torcia che dovrebbe restare accesa per sempre.
Questa torcia non è altro che luce per tutti i togolesi.
Poiché questa fiamma non riesce a mantenersi accesa per sempre, viene riaccesa ogni 26 aprile per simboleggiare questa illuminazione.
The Independence Monument was built in homage to Togo's independence from France, which it achieved on April 27, 1960.
Its structure is composed of a human silhouette sculpted in the void (inside).
The woman, sitting on a stool in the center of the monument, symbolizes fertility above all.
She holds a torch in her hands that should remain lit forever.
This torch is nothing but light for all Togolese.
Since this flame cannot remain lit forever, it is relit every April 26 to symbolize this illumination.
