A differenza dei grandi edifici costruiti in Bretagna tra la fine dell'XI secolo e l' inizio del XII secolo che presentano una forte animazione murale e un desiderio di strutturare lo spazio (chiesa abbaziale di Sainte Croix de Quimperlé o coro di Saint-Gildas de Rhuys ), la chiesa abbaziale di Daoulas presenta un'austerità volutamente arcaica, che ricorda le prime costruzioni romaniche bretoni.

Of the Romanesque abbey church, only the west facade, the central nave and the north nave remain today, which date back to the last quarter of the 12th century.
