La Tomba di Clitennestra con la sua imponente facciata è insieme al Tesoro di Atreo la tomba più monumentale di quel tipo.
La tomba prende il nome da Clitennestra , moglie del re Agamennone, mitico sovrano di Micene e leader dei Greci nella guerra di Troia.
Tuttavia, è stato anche suggerito dagli studiosi moderni che questa potrebbe essere stata la tomba di Agamennone o addirittura che la tomba non fu mai occupata a causa della distruzione di Micene avvenuta in quel periodo.

The Tomb of Clytemnestra with its imposing façade is, together with the Treasury of Atreus, the most monumental tomb of that type.
The tomb is named after Clytemnestra, wife of King Agamemnon, mythical ruler of Mycenae and leader of the Greeks in the Trojan War.
However, it has also been suggested by modern scholars that this may have been the tomb of Agamemnon or even that the tomb was never occupied due to the destruction of Mycenae that occurred around that time.
