Bartsia alpina - comune in tutta l'Islanda e si trova nei pascoli ma abbastanza spesso anche nei burroni, sulle scogliere e sui pendii montuosi.
Come altre specie di fichi d'India, questa pianta è un emiparassita: le radici di questa pianta attinge alle radici di altre piante per "rubare" nutrienti come Azoto e Fosfati di cui la disponibilità nel terreno può essere limitata.
Il nome islandese di questa specie è Smjörgras.

Bartsia alpina - common throughout Iceland and found in pastures but quite often also in ravines, cliffs and mountain slopes.
Like other species of prickly pears, this plant is a hemiparasite: the roots of this plant draws on the roots of other plants to "steal" nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphates of which the availability in the soil can be limited.
The Icelandic name for this species is Smjörgras.
