So often when shooting subjects up close I will use smaller apertures to try to have the subject fall within the range of fairly sharp focus. Here I have used a fairly wide aperture to keep the depth of field fairly shallow to make surroundings and background soft. I feel that enough of the clover bloom is sharp enough to define the flower, while being the obvious center of attention.
