Muskrat on Ice
Just so you know that shots in this series are all taken on the same visit to Elk Island but are not posted in any order. This one was one of the last I shot that day.
Shooting basically into the sun there is not a lot of detail as this little guy is mostly in silhouette. In real life that is all that I saw, and I could have given more exposure but then the water on top of the ice would have been blown out.
I guess I was just at the park at the right time as I saw a muskrat at about 5 or 6 different ponds. It seemed that they were all out and about. Likely quite vulnerable being on top of the ice, especially when far from a place to escape to, but I was very happy to see each and every one. these guys always seem to put a smile on my face when I come across them.
