Saffron-Winged Meadowhawk

While looking for something to post I was checking images I had taken last year about this time. What a difference in conditions. Last year it was so cool and wet for most of the summer, this year so hot and dry. My ferns do not look anything like this this year.

With the exception of about 30 minutes in my yard this morning taking a view snaps to give me something to process, I will be stuck inside today with air quality at 159 (unhealthy) .Even from one end of my yard to the other you can see haze.

I haven't shot many dragonflies this year for a couple of reasons. It has either been too hot or too smoky. The few cooler clear days that I did get out there have been no where near the numbers of past years, at least not in the areas I am used to finding them. It seems even spiders are harder to find this year. Maybe I have simply not got out at the same pace as other years.

Enough complaining...rain is forecast along with cool temperatures Saturday, Sunday and Monday. If it happens it will certainly put a smile on my face.

About the image, I really liked the unusual pose and have always been a fan of soft dappled light.
