Impersonating a Dead Stump
A companion shot to yesterday's post. After it had escaped from that little bush it pretty much disappeared into the reeds a bit farther away.
Since I was wearing rubber boots I decided to cross a damp ditch and take my chances walking through the reeds growing in what must be a dried up pond, in hopes of getting closer. That didn't work, as I could not spot it. It could likely hear or see me and stayed hidden. As soon as I returned to my parked car it would poke it's head up.
It was almost like a game of hide and seek. If I was to cross the road even to try and get closer it would duck down and then show up elsewhere. This is a pretty decent crop. It is no wonder I rarely spot these guys who can be still enough to appear perhaps as a dead stump. I am surprised that it did not simply just fly away, as they usually do. All in all I was thrilled with the encounter.
