DCU: the batman #4: sign of the zodiac 3/5
The batcave
Bruce, enticed In applying the finishing touches to a new birthday present from Lucius, hears Alfreds voice calling him and pokes his head up from behind a newly painted black jet planes sharp and slick wings
Alfred: I see you were quick with the addition of the bat logo master Bruce
Bruce: as you say Alfred. I’ve got an image to protect
Alfred: And one worth protecting it is too. The computers just picked up news that a Gotham airline plane has lost a large portion of its fuel and there’s a suspect in custody but the planes no closer to landing safely. The GCPD are there now, the radio picks up that a man named Jeremy Seinfeld is Behind it but has been apprehended. And one can only assume the control centre’s working on a landing as we speaking but i imagine there’s a better chance of that if you take the new bat-wing for a test drive and maybe save a few lives on the side
Bruce: on it Alfred I’ll take extra fuel to fill the plane up. Oh and chuck me those parachutes. Could be useful. They are black right?
Alfred chuckles: as always sir. You’ll need your cowl too.
Bruce: don’t need to remind me of that Alfred
Alfred: so you say. You might like to reconcile with Gordon too Bruce. The computer may work but I fear you don’t perhaps get the full story with this monstrous assembly of wires and scrap metal. Not to mention the man is one of the greatest friends you will ever have Bruce. In your right mind, you’d be clever not to put that to waste.

A small interrogation room at Gotham airport
Jim Gordon, followed by Montoya, rushes into the room trying not to spill his coffee as he does. The guard sees him and opens the heavy door to a smallish white tiled room. Gordon takes a seat opposite Seinfeld and a lawyer
Gordon: are you playing a part in the hijacking of the Gotham airlines passenger plane to Sydney that left 3 hours ago
Jeremy: depends. What colour was it
Gordon: white. No ones laughing. Did you do it
Jeremy: do what? Remove the fuel tanks mid flight
Gordon: so you did?
Jeremy: no. If your wondering how I know the tanks are gone....I saw it in the stars. I’m not the sender. I’m the messenger. don’t shoot me. I’ll shoot back
Gordon scoffs But soldiers on: is that a threat
Jeremy: yes but nonetheless I’m innocent.
Gordon: do you hear yourself. Saw it in the stars? Your wasting time. It’s a big plane and Hundreds will die. Don’t do this Jerry
Jeremy: please. Call me sir
Gordon: how did you drop the fuel tanks from the ground. And in a cell too I might add. Got people on the outside? People on the plane? Did you give them the go ahead or are you just a pawn?
Jeremy: were all pawns Jimbo. Some of us are just better than others
Jim: work with me. Let’s save these lives and your sentence will be a lot shorter or maybe you won’t get one...trust me...trust me
Jeremy: won’t get one? Won’t get one...you lying trough sucking bastard. Like I’m gonna f*ckin fall for that?! I’m going down anyway. I’d rather I reached my goal in the process! Those people are dying. That’s that. But the question is will you learn from your lesson. And listen to me so that no more need to die.
Gordon: you confess
Jeremy: I confess!! I f*ckin goddamn confess! Was that ever the question!....now...will you listen jimbo
Gordon: give up on those people? No. Now help me save them because in two more hours the reserves will be finished and we won’t be able to save them
Jeremy: two hours?
He pauses for a moment then stares harshly into Gordon’s eyes, lurching slightly and through gritted teeth come the words: I’ll wait

Within the cockpit of the so fittingly named bat-wing, Bruce follows a tracking device leading him to the airline. Luckily he owns the company that makes them so has no problem hacking the system.
He steers the jet towards the double decked hulk of an airliner and begins to mess around with a radio installed in the side of the jets interior. Eventually he manages to contact he planes pilots.
Batman: do you receive? Over
Pilot: recieving. Who is this. Over
Batman: look out of your window. Over
Pilot: the batman? We’re close to running out of fuel and can’t find anywhere close enough to land. The nearest is Gotham airport but we Other than that there’s the small possibility of farmland. Over
Batman: I bought enough extra fuel for you to make it back to Gotham airport. I’ll need access to the fuel hatch. Over
Pilot: it’s located on the bottom of the right wing but it’s too dangerous to access mid flight. Over
Batman: I’ll attempt it. After that I’ll need to get on board. There’s suspicion of there being a threat on board. In place as a back up plan. Is it possible. Over
Pilot: uh....it’s possible but tricky. Over
Batman: okay I can manage. Right now I’m going to fill up the tank. Over and out
The batwing quickly catches up with the circling aircraft. Moving at a constant speed it hovers beneath the wings as Bruce prepares auto pilot.
Once auto pilot is on he equips himself with a mouth cover to handle the strong winds and buckles himself into a parachute. After this he let’s the curved glass of the cockpit retire into the interior of the jet so that it is no longer seen. He begins to remove the panels on the bottom side of the great, white, solid wing which itself is double the size of the batwing, placing the panel carefully into the side of his cockpit. It barely fits so forced to secure it with his foot, the job is made 100 times harder for Bruce but he continues nonetheless. He begins to open the fuel hatch, lifting the fuel pipe from his cockpit and swiftly attaching the two. As he is pumping the fuel through the pipe, he spies a deadly splash of water arrive on the wing of the batwing. Within seconds, a storm ensues and Bruce knows he has to hurry up if he wants to make it onto the plane on time to miss the worst of what could be a fatal storm for not only him but the planes passengers.
