Brayherd Faction Rare Unit: Rhinhorn Riders
Rhinhorn Riders:
Throughout the vast and desolate plains that the Brayherd roams, in search of carnage and bloodshed, there are many types of feral and monstrous beasts. Some are lithe and savage, while others are massive and brutish. These bestial herds constantly roam the plains in search of food and prey. They are molded over time into vicious and ferocious beasts, qualities needed to survive the inhospitable wilderness of the plains.
As these different types of beasts are discovered by the Brayherd, some brave individuals attempt to capture these animals for their cruel pleasure and use in warfare. From the feral Plain Tusks to the quick and vicious Bray Hounds, the Brayherd have many types of savage animals bent to their will. Such is the case with the brutish and stubborn Rhinhorns.
The Rhinhorns are heavyset, wooly and brutish beasts that plod along the sparse plains, constantly roaming in packs in search of food. Their strength lies in their numbers, and also in their immense and dangerous horns that sit atop their broad heads. When pursued by prey in the wild plains, the Rhinhorn herds will form a defensive circle around their young, with the brutish adults swinging their horned heads at they would be predators. With their dangerous horns and thick, shaggy hides acting as an armor, these protective rings are a stalwart defense.
The Brayherd used to hunt the Rhinhorns as a source of meat to sustain the herd, picking off the smallest and weakest members. They would use the horns for weapons, the hides for armor, and the bones for their war beast structures. It wasn’t until the knights from the north brought their immense, noble war horses into the plains and mercilessly rode down the Brayherds with heavy cavalry that the Fauncors sought a heavy cavalry of their own. Mounting young Rhinhorns and clubbing them into submission, the Fauncors were able to train and command the large, brutish creatures, forming one of the most effective shock cavalries in the Warscape world.
A Rhinhorn is captured and beaten into submission by a Fauncor Warhorn; they are immense Fauncors that bulge with sinewy muscle, long horns protruding from their heads in the shape of antlers and tusks. These Fauncor have a ferocious and primal rage unseen in any other of their race, save the chieftain. They carry crude weapons atop their Rhinhorn mounts, sharp stakes, crude pikes, and blunt hammers. The Fauncor Warhorns are among the first to loot the battlefield, often times stealing plate metal and adorning it on themselves in a hideous manner.
Charging into battle in an impenetrable line of horn, muscle, and hide, the Rhinhorns and their riders devastate infantry on the field. Crashing through shield walls and brushing aside spears, these brutes are a truly terrifying cavalry as they thunder through battle with their hooves and hard as stone and their legs as large as trees. Few lines of defense can withstand the initial shock of the Rhinhorn charge, and those that do are quickly crushed or brutally mauled as the beasts swings its massive head as the Fauncor Warhorn dismembers the foes with crude spears and pikes.
