The outward (also 1T06, 06:45 Chester - Carlisle) had run direct via Helsby and the WCML to the border city, and sizable break was given to participants to enjoy the city (The Woolpack Inn to be precise, now student accommodation),
Then forward to Appleby for another decent break (hence the stock recessing on the Warcop Branch), for more refreshment, and forward for a half an hour stop at Ribblehead station, again for more beers at The Station Inn.
