Copyright © 2009 - All rights reserved - My understanding is that during WWII Stalin decided he would prevent the Nazi's from being able to invade Russia thru Ukraine by building all the railways 10 cms wider (I think that is the correct amount) than std European railways. Sooooo, when you cross the Ukrainian border going out or coming in, you have to have your railway cars' wheels changed to either smaller or wider ones. This unique process takes only about two hours for 16 cars simultaneously, and it is fascinating to experience.
