Copyright © 2009 - All rights reserved - "The Archway of Friendship" This imposing titanium archway was built by the Soviet government to symbolize the "friendship" between Ukraine and Russia during the Communist SSR era. At night it is lit inside each groove with the rainbow spectrum of colors, so perhaps it should have been named the "Rainbow of Friendship?" It is high on a hill not far from Vladimirskya Park and the Funikular cable cars in the Podol district. It has a viewing platform (see note on photo) with a spectacular overlook of the Dniper River to the east and north toward the wealthy Obolon region. Kyiv, Ukraine 2009
