KMTX 360002 - Open Hopper
Originally built as CSX 360002 in April 1999, this Johnstown-America AutoFlood II hopper operated in coal service for many years. CSX sold it to Flex Leasing Corp (FLCX) in the late 2000s, and the railcar was leased out to different power plants to move coal all over the country.
In more recent years this aluminum, open-top hopper has found itself moving a different, black-colored rock. It now hauls petroleum coke around the Port of Houston in a shuttle train for Kinder Morgan. Two trainsets alternate bringing loads of the oil refining byproduct from Lyondell Basell's Houston Refinery to KM's Deepwater Export facility.
