Tier 4's and Enron

With a pair of Tier 4 GEVOs up front, a CPKC empty gasoline train rolls eastward over White Oak Bayou and its hike & bike trail. This is the Freight Main of UP's Houston Subdivision, on which this train is utilizing trackage rights on as it heads for Beaumont and another load of gas.

The White Oak Bayou Trail is part of Houston's large network of trails running along the bayous that criss-cross the city. They're rather popular and well-used for recreation and commuting. This particular stretch of the White Oak Bayou Trail is unique in that it's built on the former MKT right-of-way through Houston. The Katy rails were abandoned here in the late 90's, with UP opting to move all traffic to the former SP into and out of Houston from the west (this train is on the former SP). The MKT ROW west of Houston was bought by TxDOT and now sits underneath a widened I-10. This section inside Loop 610 was bought by the City of Houston, which built the hike & bike trail here in 2009-2010.

Enron was an energy & commodities trading company headquartered in Houston. It was valued at $63 billion when it went bankrupt in 2001 due to widespread accounting fraud by the company and its auditor, Arthur Andersen. Roughly 20 years later, the trademarks of Enron were bought by a pair of internet personalities. They've since started a satirical campaign announcing Enron is back, including purchasing a full-page ad in the Houston Chronicle and buying billboard advertisements like this one.
