Phase 7 at Night

Summer months mean the westbound Sunset Limited is normally a daylight departure from Houston (6:55 pm). On this evening that's not the case however, as UP held Amtrak just east of the depot for about 2 hours waiting on several freight trains.

Now, just after departing Houston about 2 & a half hours late, the westbound Sunset Limited meets some artificial daylight on the connector track between the Passenger and Freight Mains of UP's Houston Sub.

AMTK 167 is one of the first handful of P42s to get painted in Amtrak's new Phase VII paint scheme. It made a couple round trips on the Sunset Limited this summer, including this warm evening on Train #1.
