Across Brays Bayou
Houston is criss-crossed by numerous bayous, slow-moving rivers that drain the relatively flat coastal plain down to the Gulf of Mexico. Brays Bayou, named for an early Texas settler in the 1820's, crosses the south side of Houston before emptying into the Houston Ship Channel (which is Buffalo Bayou). The bayous have become important transportation and recreational facilities for the city of Houston, with parks and hike & bike trails built along most bayou banks (there are trails on both sides of Brays Bayou here).
Here, just shy of the mouth of Brays Bayou, UP 9077 rolls south with a stack train bound for the Barbours Cut intermodal terminal in the Port of Houston. This train runs as MHOBC, a short shuttle run from UP's Houston Intermodal Terminal at Settegast Yard to Barbours Cut.
Relatively fresh concrete sits at each end of the bridge, as UP rebuilt the approaches in 2020 to prepare for future double-tracking of the Galveston Sub here. The central span dates back to when the GH&H was jointly owned by the MKT & MP.
MHOBC 14 (Manifest- Houston [Settegast Yard] to Barbours Cut, TX)
