The Garabit Viaduct, France

This railway bridge in central France was constructed between 1882 and 1884 by Gustave Eiffel and spans the valley of the river Truyère . At 124 m (407 ft) above the river, the bridge was the world's highest arch bridge when it was built.

It can be viewed from a variety of locations, but my photo was taken from a rest area on the A75 Autoroute.

Due to deteriorating concrete piles the speed limit on the bridge is now 10 km/h (6 MPH), but it's still available for use.

In 1976, the bridge was used to represent the condemned bridge in the film The Cassandra Crossing, starring Sophia Loren, Richard Harris, Ava Gardner, Martin Sheen, Burt Lancaster, Lee Strasberg and O. J. Simpson.

The photo was taken with a modern DSLR (Nikon D7100) and a 50 year old Manual Focus Lens.
