Picking grapes

Here grapes are being picked by hand for a friend who makes his own wine. Most commercial grape picking is done by machine but people can still be found doing it the way it has been done for thousands of years.

 

There are extensive fields of grapes all around in this area of Catalonia, Spain called the Penedes region.

 

To the uninitiated it's surprising to see how many large bunches there are on each plant (many much larger than the one shown here). Nature's bounty indeed.

 

People come from far away to pick the grapes (some for payment, some for fun) and it can be a surprisingly satisfying experience.
