Traffic Jam
On my way to town yesterday I ran into this traffic jam. I am the fourth car behind the road worker with the “Stop” sign. I barely had time to pull out my phone and take this picture before two cars rolled by on the other side and we were waved through.
We don’t need to fear ‘ Road Work Ahead’ signs here. The only time there is a problem is for bridge repairs.
I only remember a problem once in ten years where a town street was being dug up for quite a long distance. For some reason the Department of Transportation thought it would be a good idea to have a car for us to follow around the construction. A vehicle with the sign “Follow Car” finally shows up and a line of us start off after him. After about a mile he turns off on a side road. Everyone follows him, of course. It turns out we were supposed to keep going straight. He was just turning around to lead the people waiting on the other side back In the other direction. It was the most ill conceived idea I have ever witnessed. All these cars were trying to turn around on a small two lane street. A mere whisper in the ear of the driver of the car behind the Follow Car to go straight when he turned would have solved the problem. I haven’t seen that done here since.
I want to make it clear that I was not the car right behind the Follow Car. I like to think I would have gone straight!
Smile friends it’s HSoS!
