The Sculptor

The Sculptor Galaxy (NGC 253), also know as the Silver Coin Galaxy, belongs to a group of galaxies which is one of the closest to ours. At a distance of approx. 11 million light years, and a length of nearly 70,000 light years, it occupies a swath of sky about the diameter of the full moon.

Also seen in this image is the globular cluster NGC 288. At an age of more that 10.5 billions years, it likely formed a few billion years after the Milky Way.
