Kingfisher 925 Northumberland Park 2102

The second of the returning dynamic duo. Last year's wintering Kingfisher at Northumberland Park has returned [with the Water Rail] to entertain the crowds again.

It has become very tolerant of people allowing an approach to about 15 metres. If you keep still and wait it will often come closer. On Monday some eejit tried repeatedly to get much closer to photograph on her mobile phone and couldn't understand a) why it kept flying away and b) why everyone else there was getting annoyed with her!

It regularly attracts up to 20 people of all generations and has really fostered an interest in local wildlife. We are really blessed with this bird, the Water Rail and the wintering Black Redstart all within 600 metres of my house.

Once again fill flash makes the bird sparkle a bit in fairly dull conditions
