Lunar X & Lunar V - Clair-obscur Effects 2018-02-22
Aberkenfig, South Wales
Lat 51.542 N Long 3.593 W
Both are well known clair obscur effects which appear only for a few hours each lunar month. Times and places when they can be observed vary, so they are not visible every month from the same location. This makes them popular and sought after subjects amongst lunar photographers.
The lunar phase is an afocal single shot image captured with a Canon SX160 IS & Skywatcher & 254mm Newtonian using a 20mm f/l eyepiece.
Camera settings:
f/4
1/200s
ISO 100
f/l 7mm
Final adjustments using GIMP & Adobe Lightroom.
The detailed images captured with a Skywatcher 254mm Newtonian, Tal 2x Barlow & ZWO ASI 120MC
Both processed with Registax 6 & G.I.M.P.
Seeing conditions were very good.
Lunar south is uppermost.
