Messier 8 The Lagoon Nebula in the Constellation Sagittarius 2020-05-26

Aberkenfig, South Wales

Lat +51.542 Long -3.593

Skywatcher 254mm Newtonian Reflector, Olympus E410 at prime focus. EQ6 Syntrek Mount.

Imaging session commenced 00.31 UT

Due to trees obscuring most part of the southern horizon, captures were limited to 25 light frames of 50s at 800 ISO.

Also 10 dark frames.

Processed with Deep Sky Stacker and final levels adjusted with G.I.M.P.

An example of what can be achieved with an old digital SLR, limited exposure time, a 254mm telescope and a little bit of processing software.

A little grainy and some coma towards the edges but a fair outcome. Its low altitude and the light pollution at my location makes this a very difficult target to capture.

Despite its faults the image does provide a little more compared to visually observing this target through the eyepiece. There is also the satisfaction that it is my own observation.
