Twenty four intrepid humans have travelled into outer space, beyond Earth orbit, as far as our moon. Twelve have actually set foot on its surface. It is 50 years ago on the 21st July 1969 (02:56 GMT or 03:56 BST) that the first steps were made. I, with about 600 million others at the time, had the immense privilege to witness this event as it happened.
The following is a list of the crew who manned all the Apollo missions. Three tragically lost their lives in the effort to make these tremendous achievements in human exploration possible. All are now forever remembered for this incredible adventure in our history:
