Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad

by Joseph S. Randall

The biggest shortline under the Genesee Valley Transportation Company tree. Based out of Scranton, PA, the line operates the former DL&W main to Portland, PA, the former D&H main to Carbondale, PA & the parts of the former "Laurel Line." While known for the scenery & the roughed "Pocono Main," they are best known for being the largest operator of ALCO diesels in the world. Some of the highlights include the largest fleet of RS-3s in the world & the only surviving C636, the largest single engine locomotive they ever made.
